Fractal imaging is on the way to doing for images what Shannon
did for text and similar one dimensional information streams.
The approach of fractal imaging is to find similarities in the
image, to express them as a mathematical formula and thus achieve
a compression that can be as much as ten to one. Note that there
is no image loss or heavy computational overload. The
theoretical background is explained by the author in the book and
the Fractal Imager Software on the bound-in CD-ROM helps you
create interactive Web page images that download fast and look
sharp.
