A multi-authored book which factor makes it difficult to tie down what is meant by the term "workflow". One author writes,
"Workflow Mangement is a proactive system for managing a series of tasks defined by one or more procedures. The system ensures that the tasks are passed among the appropriate participants in the correct sequence, and completed within set times (default actions being taken where necessary)".
Workflow is computer based and proactive. Control appears to be inherent rather than explicit.
