As it happens we came to Bill Gates' book just after the "Working on European Social Policy Forum" book (Review 4506 23.8.96) which had got out of sequence. Both books were published in July 1996 but you would think in different worlds. Bill Gates' book (he created and runs Microsoft, whose software we all use) has the title and the inspiration "The Road Ahead". The Forum had the same agenda but the dead hand of consultation of consultative bodies. We would sum up with the word 'leadership'. Bill Gates has it while the European Union squabbles. The EU needs a Bill Gates or an Abraham Lincoln to get it on the road, leave alone ahead. Read Bill Gates for the inspiration.
