The purpose of the forum was to produce inputs to the
Intergovernmental Conference (IGC) currently in progress between
the member states of the European Union. An IGC is a periodic
step in the refining of the EU treaties. In general the
discussion in the Forum was opposed to changed and wanted to turn
the clock back. Here or there token mention is made of
information technology. The session "The future of working life
in the information society" contains the significant thought,
"Participants were reminded that perception of employment values
will have to change. It will be a long-term project to challenge
this centrality of employment as it is linked to traditional
forms of work". The only point we would disagree with here is
the "long-term" concept, but then the Forum is a talking shop and
talking is easy.
