IPng stands for "Internet Protocol next generation" although it is in no sense an official term. The sub-title describes the substance of the book. The book is not overly technical but it is detailed and there are a vast number of new terms to master. The book summarises all the developments and proposals as of sometime in 1995 (the work is very fluid) and is a useful base on which to get up to speed for those who need to understand how the Internet will develop. Those who do have such a need are those who wish to exploit the Internet for commercial reasons and also those who wish to become involved and contribute to the development effort. It is a very open process and all the proposals are developed by open networking.
